General Information

There are 25 prisons in Mongolia. The number of people in Mongolian prisons today totals about 8,000 people. The prisons use the Russian system: ‘everyone is guilty until proven innocent.’ Because a police salary is based on how many convictions they make, often it is not known who actually commits a crime.
